Where did the big stores go?

What’s going on in the retail world? Big name stores are closing and it couldn’t be more shocking. Macy’s, JCPenney, Sears, Kmart, RadioShack, Wetseal, the list goes on and on, and all are shutting down countless stores across the country.
The real sadness at hand here is the thousands of people that are now without a job. According to wnd.com, JCPenney alone is closing 39 stores and that means the company is laying off 2,250 employees. That’s a lot of people not getting a paycheck at the end of the day.
Why is this happening? Stores are simply underperforming; society
itself and consumer habits are rapidly changing. Going to a store and searching the racks of clothing, shelves, what have you, are basically going out of style. Why would customers pack themselves up, enter a store, and peruse 50 square feet of store space to find a shirt they could have easily found online. Humans are changing so stores need to adapt.
Are people going to stop going to the mall? The answer is most likely no, but stores may struggle. The will to want to adapt comes into play and hopefully that can happen to spare the thousands of jobs that can be lost in the future.
