United Way’s Free Basic Tax Help Available

VITA Assistance Concludes This Week for Local Residents
Free basic tax help is available this week, thanks to the United Way and the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program. The VITA program is offered locally by the United Way of Columbia and Montour Counties.
Offered since Feb. 11, this week concludes VITA assistance by our local United Way, according to Adrienne Mael, President/CEO of the United Way of Columbia and Montour Counties.
The VITA program offers free tax help to low and moderate income residents in the community.
Those interested in receiving assistance this week can “walk in” April 2-3 from 2-6 p.m. and April 4, from 4-8 p.m. at the Wesley United Methodist Church, Bloomsburg, Pa. There are no appointments or drop offs at this location.
The following items will be needed at the walk-in: Form W-2, W-2G, 1099-R, 1099-Misc., SSA-1099, 1099-INT or any other issued documentation; Social Security Cards for tax filer, spouse, and/or all dependents; photo identification card for tax filer, spouse; a copy of last year’s tax return; bank routing numbers and account numbers for direct deposit, copy of check; day care expenses with the providers EIN and amount paid (if applicable); and any other relevant information about income and expenses.
Drop off assistance is available this week in Bloomsburg and Danville. Bloomsburg drop offs are available April 2-4 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at SUNCOM Industries, Inc., 164 W 9th St #3, Bloomsburg. Danville drop offs: April 2-4 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the Good Samaritan Mission, 2087, 491 Ferry St., Danville and the Danville Area Community Center, normal hours of operations, 1 Liberty St, Danville. Drop off locations will not make copies or provide any tax information.
