Titanic Scheduled to Set Sail in 2016
Pack your bags and get ready to set sail on a remake of the infamous Titanic. Australian billionaire, Clive Palmer, has chosen to replicate the Titanic, calling the ship Titanic II. After its construction in China is complete, it is scheduled to set sail in late 2016. The ship will retrace the route of the 1912 Titanic and it plans to complete the full distance from England’s Southampton to New York’s West Side. As one can image, a ticket to board will be rather pricey. Palmer is charging $1 million for a first class cabin. In 1912 passengers were charged £30 for a first class single person berth, and £870 for a first class parlour suite.
The inside of the ship will be identical to the interior featured in the biggest Oscar winner of all time, Titanic. The furnishings will include a Turkish bath, similar to that on the original Also it will include the grand staircase on which Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet performed their famous scene in the movie Titanic. In the fashion of the original ship, it will be comprised of three separate classes with no mingling between them. Period costumes will also be offered to the passengers.
The remake will also include many modern technologies that the 1912 ship did not have, such as air condition and enough lifeboats. Many are questioning if the ship will be “unsinkable.” At a press conference on Tuesday, February 26 2013, in New York, Palmer said the idea of unsinkable would be, “Unthinkable…anything will sink if you put a hole in it. I think it would be very inconsiderate to say it.” Would you become a passenger of the Titanic II?
