Men's Lacrosse, Near Perfect Over the Weekend
The first of the two games had Bloomsburg traveling to Williamsport to take on the Nittany Lions of Penn Tech. It was a fast-paced, highly offensive affair with Bloomsburg winning the game 11-5. Mike Vogan (Phoenixville, Pa.) had six goals and two assists, leading the team in points scored. John Lawless (Collegeville, Pa.) assisted on four of the six goals Vogan contributed, while Scott Radzinski (Flemington, NJ) helped out on the other two with nice passes from behind the cage.
Bloomsburg Men’s Lacrosse improved their record to 4-2 with two hard-fought wins at away games over the weekend.
The first of the two games had Bloomsburg traveling to Williamsport to take on the Nittany Lions of Penn Tech. It was a fast-paced, highly offensive affair with Bloomsburg winning the game 11-5. Mike Vogan (Phoenixville, Pa.) had six goals and two assists, leading the team in points scored. Solid midfield play from Brad Poley (Boyertown, Pa.) and Kyle Gettz (Coatesville Pa.) kept the game in check as Bloomsburg controlled the tempo throughout all four quarters of play. Stifling defense from Joe “Navy” Seidler (Mt. Laurel, NJ)and solid defensive footwork from Clark (Danville, Pa.) held the dodgy Penn Tech offense to only four goals. The clearing routine was held in check by sophomore goalkeeper Andrew Outten (Landenberg, Pa.), who also played phenomenally between the pipes, registering 14 saves throughout the game.
The next day Bloomsburg traveled to Stroudsburg to take on the Warriors of ESU. Tired and beat up from the game the night before, Bloom came out with all cylinders firing as they jumped out into a 3-0 lead early in the first quarter. Mike Vogan again had a hand in two, shooting lasers the ESU goalie couldn’t even focus his eyes on. Radzinski and Kevin Gallagher (Souderton, Pa.) kept the engine revving while Mike Porter (Downingtown, Pa.) moved the ball well around the horn, throwing off the speedy ESU defense.
Gallagher intensified the challenge against the Warrior with hard pressing on the defensive clear, causing many turnovers throughout the game, which in turn lead to the majority of the Bloomsburg offense. With the score at 11-4 entering the final five minutes of the game and stamina running low, Bloomsburg gave up three goals in the last few minutes, but prevailed 11-7. Junior Goalie Eric Ness played a phenomenal game setting up many fast breaks with finesse clearing and acrobatic saves throughout the matchup.
This weekend the Huskies will take on Dickinson and Bucknell at 1:30 p.m. it the stadium on Sunday starting at 1:30 p.m. Bloomsburg looks to be challenged this weekend, as they expect the Bucknell Bison especially to bring a lot of talent to the table, and both schools are division one.
