I Got It From My Mama

Lindsay George is a senior at Bloomsburg University graduating with a degree in Public Relations and a minor in Anthropology. She is also the Opinion and Editorial Editor and Accounts Manager for BUnow.com. Lindsay is one of six kids, five girls and one boy. Here is some of the advice that Lindsay’s mother gave her growing up.

1. “Being polite is one of the best things you can be”– “Being polite and curious makes you a better person. My mom just always said to say hello and goodbye to everyone you know. She said. ‘if anyone had something to say about my kids, it won’t be that they’re rude.”

2.“A diet can always start Monday”– “Growing up we always played sports and ate healthy but she said have the cupcake. Enjoy yourself, you can always start over on Monday.”

3.“To make the small stuff the big stuff”– “When you put the little stuff all together that is what you remember. She goes above and beyond to show us how important we are to her. She celebrates every accomplishment major or minor. She would make posters and cook our favorite meal when we won a school election or we passed our drivers test. Going the extra mile is what people remember.”

4.“Never too old or too young to do what you want or what makes you happy.”– “On her 49th birthday she got a tattoo, and I was like are you kidding? She said, ‘I wanted it, and I’m old enough to do it.’”

5. “Family comes first”– “It’s the most important thing, and she made us make it a priority. The inside joke in my family is we haven’t seen you in so long because were always seeing our family. Friendships can go through stages, but you only get one family.”

6. “No matter what you’re doing, do it as best as you can”– “If you’re going to spend time doing anything give your full effort. My mom said if we tried our best that’s all that matters.”
