Graduation Fashion: Do’s and Don’ts

Some of us are studying for finals or focusing on just finishing the semester. Others have something else very important on their minds: GRADUATION.

graduation2Graduating is an exciting time and a relief, but it can also be a major cause of stress. With all the stress of classes and finals set aside you have to start thinking about the rest of your life. From leaving home to start a life on your own to leaving all the friends that you’ve made in the last four or five years, it’s a bittersweet sensation. Graduation is coming up and will be the main event in your upcoming month. So of course you are going to want to look and feel your best for graduation.

So what are some things that you will need to do to look and feel great on your graduation day? Here are some considerations!

*Plan what to wear under your graduation gown

Although you may not think this is a big deal because your grown covers you, it is important. There are many reasons that you may want to consider what is underneath the gown.

1. You may not have time to change between graduation and a dinner or party that you and your family may have planned for afterward. In this case you’ll want to wear something underneath that will be appropriate for both events: something cute, comfortable and stylish.graduation girls

2. If you are planning to wear something without pockets, RETHINK that. It will be extremely difficult to carry around your belongings such as a phone or wallet. You may want to use a purse, but even in that case it’ll be difficult to lug that around while in your robe. Also think about how you’ll look walking in front of all your 500 plus classmates while carrying a bag with your cap and gown.

3. Make sure to wear something sleek. The graduation gown isn’t exactly flattering. You wont want to wear something bulky underneath, because it’ll just make you look bulky even if you are not. You want to wear something comfy and that fits your body just right so you get the intended shape of your body right despite the unflattering gown.

4. Make sure to check the weather. Plan ahead for all possible cases. Plan something for the heat and for the rain. This way you have a backup plan no matter what the weather will be.

*Dress to Impress

You are going to be taking a lot of photos on graduation. This is a day that you’ll want to remember for the rest of your life. The last thing you want is a photo of you looking less than perfect. Dress mature and put the extra effort in today. You’ll want to do your hair and makeup and make sure to have your clothing ironed and ready. No wrinkles no problems! You’ll be happy you took the extra measures to get ready when you see all the photos posted on social media.

*Footwear

You will want to wear comfy shoes. They should be comfy yet still be stylish with your outfit. You also have to be cautious of where the ceremony is being held. If it is in the football field or something with grass or a non concrete surface, it will effect the type of shoes you plan to wear. If you try wearing heels on a non concrete surface, you will have an increased likelihood of sinking in the ground. Trust me this has happened to me! Last thing is to make sure that you know how to walk in heels if you do plan on wearing them. The last thing you want it so trip or fall while walking up to receive your diploma.

*Makeup

Graduation is something to be excited for! So don’t stress about the small things. Use some of these considerations to plan ahead and make your graduation day one to remember. Keep it stylish but most of all keep it focused on you! Its your day, its your time to shine! Do’s and Don’ts
