BU Campus Style: Lindsay & Turrell

Toward the end of last Spring Semester, we’ve introduced a brand new component to the Fashion Section entitled “Campus Style.” This section was created to highlight and get to know the fashionable students who roam our campus daily. Due to the amazing feedback from our first story, “Campus Style” is back with two new stylish BU students!
While I was taking a break in between classes in the Student Service Center, I spotted these two very fashionable freshmen. On a rainy and cloudy day it is typical for most students to simply throw on sweats. But these two did not allow the weather to conquer their style! So without further ado meet our featured students Lindsay & Turrell!

Let’s Talk Fashion!
Who or what inspires your style?
Lindsay: Nature’s color palette inspires my style. Even the different views of nature on campus inspire me to wear certain colors or even play with different textures.
What goes through your head when you get dressed in the morning?
Lindsay: I dress according to my moods and the weather. The night before I will check the weather particularly the temperature; because I want to make sure I am dressed properly for the appropriate temperatures. Then I figure out my mood. My mood could be based on how i feel emotionally or even a dream. For example, if my mood was “Vegas” I would put a sparkly sequin top on with a cute black bubble skirt and black pumps and wild accessories. When I dress according to my mood I try to dress like my mood from head to toe, so if I asked somebody what do you think my mood is they would most likely guess correctly.
Where do you like to shop?
Lindsay: I love to shop at: thrift stores, Forever 21, Charlotte Russe, H&M, Saks Fifth Avenue, Barefeet shoes and Joyce Leslie.
How would you describe your sense of style?
Lindsay: My sense of style is playful and imaginative. I make sure I dress up every day like it is my last day on earth.
Why did you choose this particular outfit?
Lindsay: I chose this outfit because my mood was “safari adventure meets the Aztecs”. I felt like wearing an over-sized sweatshirt with a print design that would imitate the drawings of the Aztec people. Black tights look really nice on me so I figured it would go with my safari theme and rain boots of course.
What fashion advice would you give to other students looking to improve their style?
Lindsay: My fashion advice for others students is to not be overly concerned with trying to have your whole outfit to match or not, playing with several colors and textures is okay; as long as it looks flattering on your body type. My second piece of advice is for students to not be concerned with rocking name brands, or the trendiest garments just because everybody else is. Most of my clothes came from thrift stores, and you would never know they came from there. Be original and wear clothes that you like not clothes that everybody else likes.
What are your favorite fashion trends right now?
Lindsay: My favorite fashion trends right now are feather earrings and also blazers.
What do you do for fun- do you have any unique hobbies or interests?
Lindsay: My favorite hobby that I enjoy and love is nail designing. I can do nails for hours and hours of the day and never get bored. I actually turned my hobby into a business on campus.
If you could raid anyone’s closet, who would it be and why?
Lindsay: I would raid Kim Kardashian’s closet in a heartbeat, because she has a versatile style that I love. She can make a casual outfit turn into formal wear simply by adding or re-accessorizing her outfit. Also, her style is so crazy you would never be able to guess what she will wear the next day.
