Bloomsburg University Student Named Ms. Bloomsburg Nationals 2012

BLOOMSBURG, PA – During the weekend of August 10-12, the Bloomsburg Fairgrounds hosted the first ever Bloomsburg Nationals powered by Carlisle Events.  As part of the weekend of automotive excitement, multiple onsite entertainment options were offered, including a beauty contest, where a total of $400 in cash prizes were on the line.  Following the multi-round event, the winner was named; Bloomsburg University sophomore native, Colleen Greim.

Greim was one of eight participants that voluntarily registered for the contest.  She became aware of the opportunity due to her onsite volunteer work as part of a charity car wash to benefit the town park of Bloomsburg, which was devastated by flooding in 2011.  Over the course of the 30+ minute competition, participants were given multiple opportunities to address the crowd positioned in front of the Quaker Steak & Lube band shell stage as well as three judges.  The eight ladies were reduced to a final five, then a final three.  At that point, winners were announced in reverse order.  Third place took home $50, second earned $100 and first place (Greim), won $250.

Entering her second year at Bloomsburg, Greim is undeclared academically, but is considering a major in English or Writing.  Outside of the classroom, she’s a sorority sister of Sigma Sigma Sigma (ΣΣΣ) and is active within the community, including her volunteer work to raise money for local children’s hospitals as well as taking part in the Bloomsburg Nationals car show.  On campus she takes part in intramural volleyball, where as a freshman, her team won the championship.

“I’m very surprised and excited about winning the beauty contest,” said Greim as she washed cars on Saturday of car show weekend.  “Winning was very unexpected, but it was a great experience.”  Greim continued “the $250 prize money is going towards school costs this fall so it’s a big help.”  As for whether she’d do this again if afforded the opportunity?  Greim’s smile radiated from under her ball cap and she responded with a simple “maybe.”

Unless Greim comes to Carlisle for Corvettes at Carlisle (August 24-26, 2012) or to a show in central Pennsylvania in 2013, her best chance to earn more cash will be next year in Bloomsburg as part of the second annual Bloomsburg Nationals powered by Carlisle Events, August 9-11, 2013.  By the way, this was her first ever car show and first ever entry into a contest of this type.
