Tucker Carlson’s New Show Suffers Decline

Tucker Carlson and Fox News separated back in April. Carlson’s separation came after the 787 million dollar settlement with Dominion Voting Systems after numerous hosts had regularly claimed election fraud, which was unfound, and after numerous personalities came out saying they knew the election fraud theory was fake in private while perpetuating the theory on their show. Carlson was among those, agreeing with the text “certainly no evidence the election was stolen.”

Carlson would move on from Fox News quickly, breaking his non-compete clause and signing with Twitter for a brand new show “Tucker Carlson on Twitter.” The new show would air solely on Twitter and be a short-form version of Tucker’s old show.

The announcement aired to over 28 million Twitter users. The first episode continued that trend with 26.7 million viewers.

However, it has been a decline from there. Episode 2 dropped to just 13.9 million views. Tucker bounced back with Trump’s indictment, getting 22.1 million viewers for his third episode.

The fourth episode dropped to 10.2 million viewers. Episodes five, six, and seven got 6.4, 8.5, and 5.5 million viewers respectively. Episode eight has been the worst performing, receiving only 3.8 million viewers, similar to what he was performing on Fox News, but this viewer count is worldwide, not just in the United States.

A potential reason for this decline in viewership is the difficulty of viewing. Older people dominate viewership when it comes to politics, but not on Twitter. The median age of a Fox News viewer is 68 years old. The lowest median age of all news networks was CNN at 61 years old.

Few older people are going to understand their computer or smartphone, learn how to access Twitter, and make an account to watch 12 minutes of Tucker Carlson every week. However, older people know how television works. These people have grown accustomed to this technology and have learned how to use it. It was a habit to turn Fox News on before watching something else or going to bed. 

Now, the process has changed and made viewing much less accessible and is reflecting within the analytics of the Twitter-base show.
