Trump impeached for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress

President Donald Trump has just made history by being the third sitting president in United States history to be impeached. The U.S. House of Representatives has approved two articles of impeachment: abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.

Trump was accused of using the power of his office to pressure Ukraine’s government to announce investigations that could hurt his political rivals. All but two Democrats supported the article on abuse of power. The vote was 230 to 197. As for the article on obstruction of Congress, a third Democrat opposed this charge, making the vote 229 to 198.

However, the GOP-controlled Senate still has to have a trial to see if Trump should be removed from office. The trial on whether or not the president will be removed is expected to begin in early January. Since a two-thirds majority is required for conviction and removal from office, it is likely that Trump will be acquitted. No matter what happens then, political history is certainly being made.
