Canadian actor Elliot Page, currently starring as Vanya Hargreeves in Netflix’s “The Umbrella Academy” has come out as transgender via an announcement on Twitter.
Previously known as Ellen, Elliot Page began his announcement “Hi friends, I want to share with you that I am trans, my pronouns are he/they and my name is Elliot. I feel lucky to be writing this. To be here. To have arrived at this place in my life.”
Page has had a very long career as an actor. Known for movies such as “Juno” (2007), two films in the “X-men” franchise (2006 and 2014), and most recently the adaptation of the comic book series “The Umbrella Academy” (2019-present) on Netflix. Page has also directed a 2019 documentary entitled “There’s Something in the Water” which looks into the environmental damage on Black and First Nations communities in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia, where Page was born.
Page had previously come out as gay in February of 2014 but as of December 2020 he publicly identifies as transgender. He has received support following his announcement from his co-stars in “The Umbrella Academy” as well as others he has worked with throughout his career.
