The Silver Scream by Ice Nine Kills marks a pivotal moment in the metal-core scene and music as a whole. This album offers something for everybody. Each song is based off of a classic horror movie. Some of the movies included in the album are “A Nightmare on Elm Street,” “Friday the 13th,” “IT,” etc.

This album does a fantastic job in telling each of these movie’s stories. Even if the listener has not seen the movie, they can still get a feel for what the story of the song is.

The band experimented with this aspect in their last album Every Trick in the Book. In the album, every song was based off of a famous piece of literature. Ice Nine Kills really builds off of this concept in The Silver Scream.

In the song “Rocking the Boat,” the band recreates the classic “Jaws” theme song, creating a breakdown that will excite any “Jaws” or metal fan. The band also recreates the circus vibe and creepy clown aspect from the movie “IT” in their song “IT is the End” that will make the hair stand up on the back of your neck.

The band includes very heavy songs with contagious hooks that will stick in any listener’s head. This album is packed with heavy breakdowns (like the one at 2:38 in “Thank God its Friday” that will make your head bang uncontrollably), and some mellow songs (like “A Grave Mistake” and “Love Bites” that are based on “The Crow” and “American Werewolf in London,” respectively). The band does a great job in giving something for everybody in this album.

This album is perfect for Halloween and does a fantastic job in keeping the reputation of these classic movies intact. Ice Nine Kills really nailed this album, it was a pleasure to listen to it.
