Grab your popcorn, friends, and cozy blankets. The weather is beginning to get chilly, the leaves are starting to turn, which can only mean one thing: award season has commenced.
The 64th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards leads the way of the many award shows to come this Sunday. Glitz and glamour, comedies and drama, not to mention TV’s hottest men and women, make for one electrifying evening in.
Late night’s funny man, Jimmy Kimmel, will play emcee. Kimmel’s hosting gig can almost guarantee snickers from the most solemn of spectators. Although Kimmel is no stranger to the hosting realm, this is his first time hosting the Primetime Emmy’s.
Kimmel sat down for an interview with Huffington Post about Sunday night. When asked about his nerves, he replied, “There’s no way getting around it. You should be a little bit nervous. It makes you sharper.”
Drama, Comedy, and Miniseries are all stirring quite a buzz as to who is going to take home the esteemed award in each category.
Mad Men is the leader of the pack with a whopping 17 nods apiece. Not too far behind their tail were Downton Abbey and Hatfields & McCoys with a notable 16 nominations. Coming in with 15 nods, is star-studded Hemingway & Gellhorn, starring Nicole Kidman and Clive Owen, who are both nominated.
In an Emmy’s first, all the nominees residing in the Drama Series category do not stem from any of the Big Four broadcasts ABC, NBC, CBS, or Fox.
Veterans 30 Rock, Modern Family, The Big Bang Theory, and Curb Your Enthusiasm are nominated for Best Comedy Series. Newcomers Veep and Girls, wiggle their way in this sidesplitting and competitive group.
