Sugar rush supports local women’s center
The Sugar Rush bake sale will be held in the Student Service Center from April 21 to 22 from noon to 3p.m. All of the money raised will be used to purchase the supplies needed for the Women’s Center of Columbia/ Montour County. There will be homemade cookies, cupcakes, brownies and other baked goods available.

The Women’s Center, Inc. of Columbia/Montour County, located in Bloomsburg, PA, is a non-profit organization that provides free support for all women. The center supports women that have experienced domestic violence, have been sexually assaulted or have been victims of incest. The Women’s Center’s goals are to provide a safe, nonviolent atmosphere along with making everyone feel equal. Volunteers, staff and the women themselves work hand and hand to support each other and help overcome all the trials and tribulations of individuals.
Since the Women’s Center is always helping and giving back to the community, Bloomsburg would like to give back to them.
Along with the bake sale, there will be drop boxes in the dorms to help collect cleaning supplies, toiletries, toilet paper, and clothing, as well as used cell phones; all items that the Women’s Center desperately needs. Anything and everything that students are willing to donate would be helpful and greatly appreciated.
Along with collecting donations of clothing and cleaning supplies, the Women’s Center also does a program called “Adopt-a-Room.” The “Adopt-a-Room” program is open to groups and individuals who wish to clean and decorate a single room in the womens shelter to help make the environment there more like home. Most victims have nothing but the clothes on their back when they enter the shelter so this is a great way for the community to help give back to those women in need. More information about the “Adopt-a-Room” program will be available at the bake sale on April 21 and 22.
