Would you consider decriminalizing marijuana usage in the town of Bloomsburg?
Bill Kreisher: The Town does not have the authority to decriminalize marijuana use. This must be done by the state legislature. Medical use of marijuana is already decriminalized. I think it is only a matter of time until both the state and the federal government will do so. However, if it is decriminalized it may still be the basis for charges relating to operating a motor vehicle under the influence of marijuana. The Town Police permit persons arrested for possession of marijuana to have the charges dismissed if they participate in an ARD program.
Eric Bower: No this is a state and federal legislation issue. I do not think our local government has the power to dictate how state or federal laws are enforced here. Larger cities such as Pittsburgh or Philadelphia have more municipal powers in Pennsylvania. I do support decriminalization of marijuana on the state and federal levels and supported the initiatives that have legalized it for medical use.
