Springfest 2016 Recap

The sixth annual Springfest Weekend, a free and safe alternative to Block Party and end of the year celebration, broke a record this year with 2,587 participants.
This year’s theme was Patriotic and students could definitely “red, white, and BU” at all of the events. The festivities began with the Freedom Carnival on Friday, April 15 on the Lycoming Lawn with live entertainment from WBUQ. Participants were able enjoy free food including hot dogs, cotton candy, popcorn chicken, and ice cream. There were also several carnival games including an inflatable ski ball and hi-striker.
Once the carnival came to a close, the night was far from over. At 8:00 p.m. there was a “Do Your Thing for ‘Merica Contest” where students were awarded for the best patriotic costumes. Shortly thereafter, there was an outdoor screening of Star Wars: The Force Awakens at the Scranton Commons Amphitheatre.
The fun only continued on Saturday morning, which began with rock climbing and zip lining at Quest.
Students then headed over to the Nelson Fieldhouse lobby where they were given a free t-shirt, wristbands, and meal tickets for more free food! The day was filled with several activities including life-sized board games, arts and crafts, pet therapy, a balloon artist, and even bubble soccer.
At 2 p.m. the winners of the banner contest were announced, Columbia Hall took home the prize with Alpha Sigma Alpha as the runner up.
The day finished with bingo held at Nelson Fieldhouse. It was a fun day by all!
Save the date for next year’s Springfest Weekend so the attendance record can be broken again! The dates are April 21-22, 2017!
