Women’s Basketball Players and Staff Receive Awards

Bloomsburg, Pa—Players and staff from the Bloomsburg University women’s basketball team received special recognition for their efforts on Wednesday from PSAC officials.
Catherine Noack (Sr. G) was named the PSAC Eastern Division Player of the Year and to the All-PSAC first team, while Jocelyn Ford (Jr. G) was named the All-PSAC second team. Also gaining recognition was head coach Bill Cleary, who was named the PSAC East Division Coach of the Year.
Noack has posted career-highs in almost every major category during the 2013-14 season, and has started all 27 games for the Huskies. She has upped her scoring from 10.1 points per game, to 16.1 ppg, while increasing her efficiency from everywhere on the court. The Liberty high school graduate is shooting 50.9% from the field, 49.4% from 3-point range and 89.4% from the foul line. Her mark from 3-point range is on pace to break the single-season PSAC record, and also leads all of Division II. Noack is currently second in school history in all-time in 3-pointers made, with 234.
As for Ford, she has filled the stat sheet in every way this season. Moving into a starting position, the Lansing high school graduate is posting averages of 11.5 ppg., 5.1 rebounds per game, and 4.0 assists per game. Ford is also a force on the defensive end, averaging 1.9 steals per game.
In addition, Ford and Noack have both taken on higher leadership roles, after five seniors graduated after last season (including four starters).
For Cleary, this marks the second time he has been named Coach of the Year while at at Bloomsburg (2010-11 season). During his six years as the Huskies’ head coach, Cleary has led Bloomsburg to a 123-48 (.719) record, including two straight NCAA tournament appearances. Last year, the Huskies won the 2012-13 PSAC title under his guidance, with a 74-57 win over Gannon at the Nelson Field House.
This season marks the fourth consecutive year in which Bloomsburg captured the PSAC East Division title. Cleary has directed the Huskies to 17 straight wins (24-3 overall), and a #14 ranking in Division II.
Bloomsburg will look to continue that winning streak on Saturday, March 8, when they play Gannon University in the PSAC Semifinals. The game will be held at Edinboro University, and will take place at 1 p.m.
