The Bloomsburg University softball team ran its winning streak to 13 games with a sweep of Philadelphia University on Monday afternoon by scores of 2-0 and 8-7.
In game one, Shavaun Fisher (Coplay, Allentown Central Catholic) tossed a two-hit shutout to lead Bloomsburg to the win. Locked in a scoreless battle going into the top of the sixth, Nikki Shiko (Shamokin, Southern Columbia) led off the inning with a single and moved to third after Danielle Lazorka (Williamsport, Jersey Shore)reached on error. Lacy Mauro (Jersey Shore, Jersey Shore) then doubled home both runners for the only scoring of the game. The Rams did bring the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the seventh inning, but Fisher ended the game with a strikeout, one of 11 in the game.
In the nightcap, Mandy Koch (Dauphin, Central Dauphin) went 2-2 and drove in three runs to lead Bloomsburg to the win. The Huskies took a 1-0 in the first inning when Shiko reached on an error and later scored on a single by Mauro. After the Rams rallied and took a 7-1 lead going to the top of the fifth, the Huskies closed the gap with four runs. Mauro had an RBI single to drive in one run, while Koch had a double scoring two runs. Sam Pientack also had an RBI single to make it 7-5.
In the sixth, Mandy Leach (Milford, Delaware Valley) singled and scored on a single by Shiko. Lazorka then doubled home Shiko with the tying run before Koch drove brought Lazorka home with a single to put Bloomsburg on top 8-7.
Philadelphia brought the game winning run to the plate, but freshman Cait Paine (Lebanon, Lebanon) ended the game with a strikeout to earn her 13th win of the season.
Bloomsburg, 29-3, will host IUP on Tuesday starting at 3 p.m.
