Red Wings Raise a Legend’s Banners

Thursday night was a special night for former Red Wings defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom as his jersey was retired by Detroit. Lidstrom played 20 seasons in the National Hockey League and all of them were with the Wings. He won seven Norris Trophies for being the NHL’s best defenseman, was a 12 time All-Star, Conn Smythe winner as playoff MVP, winner of an Olympic gold medal, and won four Stanley Cups in his career. His career was nothing short of legendary. Lidstrom’s number “5” jersey will now be hanging in the rafters atop the ice at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit. He will go down as one of the best players of all time.
