Notre Dame’s Golson Ineligible for 2013 Season
According to multiple reports, Notre Dame starting quarterback, Everett Golson, is ineligible for at least the 2013 fall semester because of “poor academic judgment.”
As of Friday, Golson was reportedly not enrolled in the university. Golson released a statement Sunday, stating, “I take full responsibility for my poor choices and will do all that is asked of me to regain the trust of my family, friends, teammates, coaches and the entire Notre Dame community.”
Coming off of a 12-1 season and a run to the national title game, this will be a huge blow for the Fighting Irish. Golson completed 58.8% of his passes for 2,405 yards and 12 touchdowns as a redshirt freshman last year. He also ran for 298 yards and six touchdowns; showcasing his ability to move around the pocket.
The possible replacements for Golson are senior Andrew Hendrix, who has no career starts, freshman Malik Zaire, and senior Tommy Rees, with the latter being the probable choice. Rees has thrown for 4,413 yards, 34 touchdowns and 24 interceptions during his first three years at Notre Dame. Unfortunately for the Irish, he does not have the mobility that Golson has, rushing for -71 yards in his career.
