Montreal and Boston, Familiar Foes for Many Years
If there are two teams in hockey that are truly acquainted, then they would be the Boston Bruins and the Montreal Canadiens. Each team is an Original Six franchise in the NHL with the Canadiens being founded in 1909 and the Bruins established in 1924. Since then, both teams have had their fair share of animosity, victories, and defeats.
This year is no different from other years when the teams have met each other in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Boston and Montreal are in the midst of a second round series which has been nothing short of exciting. Their series marks the 34th time that each team has played each other in the playoffs. That number is the most meetings of any two teams in the postseason throughout the NHL, MLB, NBA, and NFL. There is no shortage of history between the two squads.
The series, as of Saturday, is tied 1-1 after two great games took place. Montreal won in double overtime in Game 1 after a goal from defenseman PK Subban. Game 2 was a different story as the Canadiens collapsed late in the third period. They held a 3-1 lead over the Bruins but that lead soon faded. Boston scored four straight goals in the latter part of the third period to win 5-3. It was not a comeback for the faint of heart.
