It’s Crunch Time for the Husky Hockey Team

On February 7, Bloomsburg will face a much improved Northampton Community College team. The Huskies were victorious in their first meeting of the season against them, winning convincingly 13-2. “You cannot overlook them right now, they are much improved with a couple additions to their team, and we have to be ready to play,” Lerch continued.

The Bloomsburg University Ice Hockey club team will conclude their season with the busiest two weeks of the season.  The Huskies will have four meaningful games in the next two weekends.

Playoffs are not a certainty for the team quite yet, but after a very successful weekend their their run for the championship became more promising.  On January 31, the Huskies faced Moravian College in an important game for the standings.  Despite some key players missing for Bloomsburg, they were victorious with an impressive 11-6 debacle.  Nikita Latychev, the leading goal scorer for the team, was a man on a mission with a hat trick in the first period, and one more in the second to give him a four-goal game.

If it was not for the Huskies’ dominant Powerplay, the game could have had a different outcome.  They were 3-6 in the game, and they made most of their opportunities.  After the game Captain Nick Lerch said, “It was a good game and a great win for us, but we are already looking towards next weekend and the wins we have to take care of.”
