Huskies D Leads the way Against Mercyhurst

The Bloomsburg University football team won their third straight game, defeating Mercyhurst 38-22 on Saturday afternoon.
The Huskies defense, which has been strong through the first two weeks of the season, forced six more turnovers, including pick 6’s by cornerback D.J. Robinson and defensive tackle Bill LaBadie on Saturday. Cornerback Tomas Cabrera also recorded an interception, while Bloomsburg recovered three fumbles.
On special teams, Lawrence Elliott Jr. took a Mercyhurst punt 70 yards for a touchdown to put the game on ice with nine minutes to play in the 4th quarter. Kicker Braden Drexler connected on field goals of 34 and 36 yards respectively.
On offense, running back Eddie Mateo carried the ball 14 times for 117 yards and had two touchdowns, including a 60-yard score in the third quarter, his longest carry of the season. Quarterback Tim Kelly completed 14 passes for 91 yards, while wide receiver Connor Gades caught six passes for 30 yards.
The Huskies will host Shippensburg University this Saturday at 2 p.m. Bloomsburg will be looking to exact revenge on the Raiders after they defeated BU 34-18 on Halloween night last year.
