Flyers Unveil 50th Anniversary Jersey

On Wednesday at 1 Liberty Place in Philadelphia, the Flyers treated their fans to a special event: the unveiling of the team’s 50-year anniversary jersey. Check it out below:

The jersey was modeled by team captain Claude Giroux in front of media personnel, Flyers alumni, and a few lucky fans. Keeping with the original colors, orange and black, the jersey also has a special twist. As you may have seen, the numbers are gold as well as the trim around the Flyers logo on the front. Some fans were not happy with that, saying that the jersey has Penguins colors on it (the Flyers’ cross-state arch rivals). On the other hand, the gold represents the “golden anniversary” of the organization.

Ever since their first games, the Flyers have rarely changed the layout of their jerseys, always sticking to the original two-color scheme. The 50-year anniversary jersey is another small change in a somewhat unchanged design. Per the team’s website, the Flyers will be wearing the jerseys 12 times throughout the upcoming season.
