Before you go on to think Selena Gomez is traveling down the same path as some of Hollywood’s “troubled” stars, like Amanda Bynes, Lindsay Lohan, or recently her ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber, there is more to the story.
E! News officially confirmed Feb. 5 that Gomez secretly spent a two week stint in an Arizona rehab facility for issues not related to drugs or alcohol. Gomez and ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber, were spotted and photographed riding Segways near the Believe singers Calabasas home, Jan. 2. Two days after the Segway spotting, Bieber took to Instagram to show the world an adorable picture of him and the Spring Breakers star, with the caption “Love the way you look at me.” According to E!, the 21-year-old “Come and Get It” singer was admitted to Arizona’s Dawn at the Meadows Jan. 5, just a few short days after she was seen in public and on Instagram with her former beau, Bieber. All reps for Gomez were quick to shoot down any rumors the pop star was struggling with any drugs or alcohol. “Selena voluntarily spent time at Meadows but not for substance abuse,” a source told E!
“The last straw was seeing them on the Segways. She needed to work on her emotional life. She needed to learn tools on how to deal with Justin and letting go of that relationship. Continuing her interaction with Bieber was causing a strain in her relationship with her understandably concerned family and friends,” a source spilled to E!.

According to the rehab facilities website ( http://www.dawnthemeadows.com/about/why-dawn-at-the-meadows ) the recommended stay is usually 45 days, where inpatients are treated from ages 18-26 for latent trauma, addiction, or other issues. After a short stay of only two weeks in the Dawn program, Gomez was out of rehab in time to promote her new film “Rudderless,” at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. The pop princess sat down for an exclusive interview with Ken Baker of E! News, where she appeared to be happy, healthy, and in good spirits, looking beautiful in a black top and blue jeans. The interview took place right after her stay in rehab.
As the shocking news broke, it spread like wildfire. The media and the public went on a tweeting spree. Fans came to her defense as they tweeted well wishes and loving thoughts, as well as her celebrity BFF, former X Factor judge, Demi Lovato. Gomez’s childhood friend and Barney co-star tweeted, “Weakness is living in denial. Only the strongest people ask for help,” which everyone assumed was about her.

Some say signs of Gomez’s issues were visible weeks before her stay in rehab. Dec. 19, 2013 she shocked her devoted fans when pulling the plug on the Australian leg of her tour. Another sign was when she all of a sudden went silent on social media, Jan.6-Jan.20. “It has become clear to me and those to me that after many years putting my work first, I need to spend some time on myself in order to be the best person I can be,” Gomez revealed in a statement. It is no secret the former Disney Channel star has been working nonstop. After finishing her “Stars Dance” tour Nov. 26, 2013, which played 55 states, the newly big sister headed to Dallas, Tx. two days later to perform the Dallas Cowboys and Oakland Raiders halftime show.
It seems to make sense now that Gomez needed to seek professional help. After her emotional split with Bieber and her extreme work schedule, anyone would have needed a break. But, the Latina’s rehab stint seems to coincide with her ex’s recent run-ins with the law. From felonious egg throwing accusations to marijuana suspicions, and battery charges in his Canadian stomping grounds, it appears Bieber may need to seek some help of his own. Gomez took a step in the right direction when it came to needing help. Staying away from Bieber seems to be a good move at the moment, but maybe she should lend some helpful advice to her not-so-lucky ex.

No need to worry everyone. Gomez retired her silence from social media, by posting smiling photos and a dancing video to Instagram. It seems as though the brown-haired beauty has not given up her hard work ethic either. Jumping right back into the spotlight, she graces Seventeen’s March 2014 “Power” issue. A source told E!, “She’s never been better, she’s strong and great,” post rehab. Gomez told Seventeen Magazine, “If you’re able to look yourself in the mirror every day with decisions that you make, that’s where power starts.” Her inspirational words reveal that her stint in rehab did her good. E! settled the inquiring minds of fans by revealing that Gomez is currently “reading scripts,” but has not attached herself to any new projects yet. Everyone can’t wait to see what is next for the talented singer and actress. Hopefully her stint in rehab helped her to become “the best person” she could be.
