The Safe and Sound Slumber Fund Volleyball Tournament held last Saturday, Nov. 16 proved to be a great success. Twenty-five volleyball teams, consisting of six players each, filled the on campus Rec Center’s courts, revved up and ready to play. And who wouldn’t be, with such a great cause at hand. To participate in the tournament, each team had to pre-register, paying only $20 per team, or $25 day of. The tournament raised a whopping $500 with all proceeds going directly to the local Bloomsburg Women’s Center.
The winner of the volleyball tournament was team Bubbles, consisting of Josh Hunger, Edward Donnelly, Travis Potter, Dayton Broyan, and brothers Matt Cashman and Ricky Cashman.
Team Bubbles won up to $120 in prizes, which included gift cards to Pizza Hut, Balzano’s Italian Restaurant, Steph’s Subs, Olive Garden, Weis, two free movie passes to the local movie theatre, and Subway. The team also received personally customized volleyball tournament T-shirts.
The volleyball tournament was merely one event out of the many the Safe and Sound Slumber Fund development campaign has held. The development campaign sprouted from the upper level, Public Relations course, PR: Cases and Problems, instructed by Dr. Richard Ganahl. Every semester, the PR: Cases and Problems class holds a development campaign to raise funds for a local organization in need. So far, the Safe and Sound Slumber Fund has held a Wendy’s Fundraiser, canned in downtown Bloomsburg, and also set up an Indiegogo account which sends direct monetary donations to the Women’s Center.
