Review: Kamen Rider Zero – One Episode One

Kamen Rider Zero – One is the first rider in the Reiwa era in Japan. In Japan, there is, as of now, three eras of “Kamen Rider.” The first two are Showa, from the 1970s to the 1990s, and the Heisei era, from the early 2000s to 2018.

“Kamen Rider Zero – One” is about a failed comedian who accepts the responsibilities as the president of Hiden Industries, and is able to transform into Kamen Rider Zero – One to fight cybernetic android monsters from a terrorist movement called ThunderClap.Net.

I like how this show looks and feels like it is for children in Japan. But some of the stuff that was shown in this episode specifically was truly shocking.  One of the villains shoots an android in the face just because he felt like it. You see the bad guys enjoying the carnage. Also, the villains are terrorists which is shocking that Toei wants to go that route! I for one love the risk-taking and hope they continue to talk more about this topic, including adding more discussion in the near future for other topics such as gun violence, racism, and mental health/illness. It seems they are going on that path. Please watch the video for more details about “Kamen Rider Zero – One!”
