Red Lobster Sales Boost by 33 Percent

Super Bowl Sunday saw the success of the Broncos, a slightly disturbing puppy monkey baby, and an incredible half time show stolen by Beyoncé. The artist debuted her song the day before, but the national attention her new hit, “Formation” received wasn’t known until that Sunday.

The song is upbeat and has a strong message: Red Lobster is for a “job” well done. A lyric from the song states, “When he fuck me good I take his ass to Red Lobster.” The internet exploded in applause with fans tweeting that “they were taking their man to red lobster,” helping the company achieve a 33 percent increase in sales on this year’s Super Bowl Sunday versus. Super Bowl Sunday 2015’s, Red Lobster, told USA TODAY.

CEO Kim Lopdrup stated in an interview with USA TODAY that Red Lobster had no knowledge of the song prior to the debut.

“We had nothing to do with the song and had no advance knowledge of it being released. We learned about it by seeing that we were trending as number one on Twitter, which is probably the first time that has ever happened.”

Red Lobster spokeswoman Erica Ettori mentioned in an interview with BuzzFeed that the current Lobsterfest promotion may have something to do with the increase in sales. Regardless of why or how, there were over 300,000 tweets about the lyric Super Bowl weekend as sales continued to increase into Monday. It seems that Red Lobster customers are being satisfied, and it’s not just from the Cheddar Bay Biscuits.
