Professor to discuss college student comparisons

Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania’s International Studies Living and Learning Community Lecture Series will feature “Do You Think Your Roommate is Better than You?” Wednesday, Dec. 2, at 7 p.m. in the Living and Learning Community Center, Columbia Residence Hall, room 119.
Reza Noubary, professor of mathematics, computer science and statistics at BU, will present the lecture, which is free and open to the public. Noubary will discuss how to compare two students taking the same course, but with different instructors; how to compare two students from different majors; and whether the grading criteria presented in a syllabus is consistent with the letter grading system.
Noubary has more than 40 years of experience teaching in 10 universities in six countries. His research includes time series analysis, geostatistics, reliability, risk analysis and applications of mathematics in sports. He has published more than 100 papers in several disciplines and four books, many focusing on earthquake modeling and risk analysis.
