Oxenrider Leads Women’s Basketball Team to Win
The Women’s basketball team beat Mansfield University 74-54. In the game Kayla Oxenrider scored a game high 19 points to lead the Huskies to the victory.

Freshman Kayla Oxenrider (Ashland/Tri-Valley) scored a game-high 19 points to lead the Bloomsburg University women’s basketball team to a 74-54 win over Mansfield University in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division match-up Wednesday night at Nelson Field House.
After Mansfield grabbed an early 4-0 lead the Huskies went on an 18-2 run to take an 18-6 lead with 13:21 to play. Dana Wieller (Bethlehem/Liberty) led the rally scoring eight points with Oxenrider getting six on two three-pointers. Bloomsburg continued to build its lead and stretched it to as many as 25 points at 44-19 with 4:48 to go before the half. Kelsey Gallagher (East Stroudsburg/East Stroudsburg South) hit a couple of free throws giving the Huskies its biggest lead of the game. Mansfield did hit a couple of free throws in the closing minutes and trailed by 21 at the break.

In the second half Mansfield chipped away at the Huskies lead and narrowed the gap to 13 points, 56-43, after two free throws from Mallory Moore. The points came at the end of an 8-0 run for the Mounties. The Huskies, though, pushed the lead back to 19 points after a three-pointer from Alyssa Flanagan (Freeland/Hazleton Area) with 6:55 to play. Mansfield would cut the lead back to 15 with 2:15 to go before Bloomsburg closed out the game with a 7-2 run and won by 20.
Four Huskies hit double figures in the game. Along with Oxenrider’s 19 points, Wieller netted 15, while Gallagher added 13 points and a career-high 12 rebounds. Flanagan also scored 13 points to go along with eight assists. Mallory Moore scored 18 points and Mallory Hafer added 14 for the Mountaineers, now 4-15, 1-6 in the PSAC East.
Bloomsburg, 13-6, 5-2 in the PSAC, will host Cheyney Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in another PSAC East match-up.
