The Ruination of Relationships = Cell Phones + Social Media

Mobile phones have been around for a little while now, and they serve many important purposes. Since people can always have their cell phones on them, they can communicate from wherever they are and, most importantly, if they find themselves in an emergency situation.

However, with the age of social media upon us, the combination of cell phones and social media could have a lot of negative effects on your relationships with your friends, family, and significant other. Social media can be a whole lot of fun and provide something for you to stare at when you do not feel like socializing. It also helps you to connect with your family, friends, and favorite celebrities, sports stars, etc.

But when does the use of social media become too much?

1. When you’re walking around staring at your phone, either texting or looking at social media and you run into someone because you weren’t paying attention to whsocial media over dinnerere you were walking. Unless you need to be looking at your phone for some important reason, put it down and enjoy the scenery around you.

2. When you’re at the dinner table with your family, friends or significant other. Take the time to talk to them instead of ignoring them and almost missing your mouth because you’re trying to eat and look at your phone at the same time.

3. When you’re hanging out with your friends and all you do is stare at your phone. Sure, we all have those friends whom we are so comfortable with that you can both take the time to check your phones or look at social media. However, try to pay the most attention to the people you are with rather than the people you can text on your phone.

4. When you’re on a date with your significant other. It is a huge turnoff when you’re with someone you like and they aren’t paying attention to you because they are so engrossed in their phone. Whether you’re out to dinner or just cuddling on the couch, you’re bound to be secretly annoyed if your boyfriend/girlfriend looks at their phone more than they are talking to you. For many people, checking their phone has become so much of a habit they do it just to do it. Resist the urge to unlock and relock your phone and instead talk/listen to your significant other.

Many of us with a cell phone and/or social media accounts have probably experienced one or most of these situations above at some point in time whether you were the doer or the victim. Take your life back from social media and texting by enjoying the people and things around you.
