“Reading Should be Enjoyable”
Students should read and write and not dread the process. Reading should be enjoyable. Choice of a book is very important. If it is a right book, the student will feel connection with the text, and writing about this book would be more rewarding. High school students have a lot on their plate, yet I am sure they have things to say. I want to give them opportunities to express themselves. I want to try to make whatever we read together relevant to them, and I want to give them freedom of choice. Imagination is a very powerful tool. Students should be allowed to express themselves through writing, make connections, and be precise in their choice of words. As almost-a-teacher, I want to let my students know that I do not wish to put them in the box.
