Last-Minute Halloween Costumes for Everyone

We’ve all been there, for some of us it happens every year. In the beginning of October we start brainstorming the most awesome and creative Halloween costumes that will definitely get you tons of Instagram likes. But then homework, exams, laundry and really just life happens and suddenly Halloween is a few days away and you are costume-less. You could crack out the cat ears or devil horns you have from Halloweens past but nobody should have to succumb to those basic costumes. If you, like many, have let October slip by without doing your costume shopping, here are some awesome last-minute costumes for everyone, groups and couples included.

Single Costumes:

  1. Risky Businessrisky business

Tom Cruise’s signature look from Risky Business is simple to recreate and always a crowd-pleaser. Last year, I was able to create this look in just a couple of hours. All the essentials of this costume can be found at home (or from a friend).

What you need:

  • An oversized button-down *Girls: just steal one from your boyfriend, friend, or even dad.
  • Boxer shorts *Girls: if you can’t get a pair of boxer shorts, any color Soffee shorts work too.
  • White tube socks
  • Sunglassesrisky

*Note: While Cruise wears just socks, that is not realistic for hitting up Halloween parties. Throw on a pair of slides or moccasins to keep the whole “dancing in the comfort of your home while nobody is watching” effect.

  1. Rosie the Riveterrosie

This is the perfect costume for every self-proclaimed feminist. Bonus: Rosie’s famous pose makes for an awesome Instagram post.rosie costume

What you need:

  • Denim shirt (or blue button-down)
  • Red bandana
  • Optional: red lipstick (just really pulls the look together in a cute way).

*Note: You can wear any bottoms with this look since only Rosie’s attire from the waist up is known. Sticking with the bada$$ feminist look, try wearing jeans or leggings with combat boots.

  1. Nerd

A nerd is an easy costume that anyone can do. Even a group of friends can easily pull off this look together. My high school had “Nerd Day” as a day during Spirit Week and my friends and I pulled off our looks with just a day of planning.friends nerds 2

  • Jeans
  • Suspenders (optional)
  • Button down, preferably plaid

*Note: Add a dorky superhero, Pokemon, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings or any book/movies series t-shirt under your button-down to really nail the nerd look.

  • You can either wear high socks pulled up over your jeans or roll up your jeans to create a “high-water” effect that will show off your socks.

*Extra point for patterns, bright colors, superheroes or cartoons on them: (these can easily found at Wal-Mart).

  • Any shoes will work but the best options are Skechers, converse, saddle shoes or oxfords.
