Calvin Klein Unleashes a ‘Controversial’ Lingerie Campaign

Twenty-seven year old, Wisconsin native, Myla Dalbesio, is the so called biggest girl to be the “face” of Calvin Klein’s latest underwear line. This is seemingly controversial in the industry, considering what Dalbesio’s body size is.

Her body is now the center of attention to thousands. Now Calvin Klein did not in fact label her as a plus size model, but society and social media did. What constitutes being a plus size is that a model is between the sizes of 6-14. This is ridiculous considering on average a woman in this country is a size 14.

Dalbesio is a size 10 which is a healthy size for her. Although Dalbesio has not had it easy in the industry, she comes from a history of suffering from body dysmorphia.  She has battled many times to maintain a skinny body in numerous unhealthy ways such as, “Adderall crashing, crash dieting and fighting bulimia.”  She now views herself as being a healthy weight and takes pride in the way she looks.

Calvin Klein has no intentions of showing favorites towards a specific body type over another. This campaign was launched interestingly after Victoria’s Secret “perfect body” lingerie line was unveiled.  She receives no special treatment in any way for being a “plus size” model, other than the rewards of knowing the many girls who will be looking up to her.

When asked for a statement regarding the campaign in an interview a Calvin Klein spokesperson responded with:

“The new Calvin Klein Underwear Perfectly Fit imagery features models Myla Dalbesio, Jourdan Dunn, Amanda Wellsh, Ji Hye Park and the face of the brand, Lara Stone, in several styles. The Perfectly Fit line was created to celebrate and cater to the needs of different women, and these images are intended to communicate that our new line is more inclusive and available in several silhouettes in an extensive range of sizes.”
