Bowl and Make a Difference
Upon entering college, it is easy to get caught up in university activities. One day you have a study group meeting, the next day you have tennis practice, and tonight you are planning to go out to a movie with your friends. In fact, it is so easy to get caught up with university activities that it is simple to forget that although you are part of the university community, you are also part of the Bloomsburg community.
Upon entering college, it is easy to get caught up in university activities. One day you have a study group meeting, the next day you have tennis practice, and tonight you are planning to go out to a movie with your friends. In fact, it is so easy to get caught up with university activities that it is simple to forget that although you are part of the university community, you are also part of the Bloomsburg community.
There are various ways to remember the community and ensure that they remember you. For example, you could volunteer through campus ministry, or look for flyers on campus that feature social justice activities; however, if you wish to see the change that you can make in the world, consider getting involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of The Bridge serving Columbia County. If you are not 100% sure that BBBS is for you, come test the waters at their annual fundraiser.
Big Brothers Big Sisters will be hosting their annual, Bowl For Kids’ Sake, event. The event will be held on Saturday, March 28, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the P-Nut Bowl in Bloomsburg. This yearly event will help raise awareness and funds for The Big Brothers Big Sisters agency serving the residents of Columbia County.
Bowl For Kids’ Sake is a nationwide activity that helps to fund local chapters in their quest to better the lives of children of all ages. Approximately $20 million is raised through this national initiative to help fund the mentoring program that helps to enrich the lives of more than 255,000 children per year. Last year, Columbia County’s Bowl For Kids’ raised $30,000. The mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters is to keep children away from substances, abuse and violence, and mentors them toward educational pursuits. The goal of this fundraiser is to raise money, as well as raise awareness and raise volunteer participation for the organization.
Active bowlers are not the only thing needed to make this event a success, but Big Brothers Big Sisters needs donators as well. Businesses are also encouraged to partake by becoming a sponsor. Sponsorships for businesses range from $500 to $50,000. All it takes is a short amount of time and effort to change someone’s life.
