The Big Event: Another Successful Year

This past Saturday, Mar. 30, Bloomsburg University’s annual The Big Event was held. The Big Event celebrated its 10th anniversary with nearly 2,000 student volunteers working at about 225 job sites.
The Big Event page on the BU website said, “Huskies came together again this year at the Community Government Association’s annual Big Event!…Among the locations served were The First Presbyterian Church, Children’s Museum, Kocher Park and more than 100 local residences. Student volunteers tackled a host of chores such as raking, gardening, mulching, removing debris, digging and various spring-cleaning duties.”
The Big Event is sponsored by the CGA, and it is a community service event that allows BU students to give back to Bloomsburg and demonstrate their appreciation for the community and its residents. Campus organizations such as Greek Life, sports teams, interest-based organizations, Living and Learning Communities, and other students groups volunteer on this day.
The Big Event page also states, “[The CGA] coordinates this one day event by combining campus, town and student officials and volunteers focusing on aspects, such as town recruitment, fundraising, transportation and student life.”
WNEP covered The Big Event, and you can check out their coverage here.
BUnow participated again this year with members of our writing, editing, and PR teams working together to help clean up a town resident’s yard.
The Big Event was again a successful day, and student volunteers were happy to have the nice weather we had (although they would have participated in any weather). We can’t wait for next year already!
