Larry Webster Drafted by Detroit Lions

Another Husky has joined the ranks of the NFL. Defensive end, Larry Webster, was drafted by the Detroit Lions in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL Draft on Saturday. He was the 136th overall pick by Detroit, making him the second-highest draft selection in Bloomsburg history behind offensive tackle, Jahri Evans, who was taken in the fourth round (108th overall) in the 2006 draft.

Webster only played two seasons for the Huskies, as he was a four-year player on the men’s basketball team. Upon joining the football team in the 2012 season, Webster set a school record with 13.5 sacks overall. This past season, he followed that up with 12.5 sacks, which led all of the PSAC, as well as 102 sack yards, which led all of Division II.

Webster finished this past season with 49 tackles, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries, and 16 tackles for a loss. He was also a finalist for the Cliff Harris Award and earned All-American honors from D2Football.com, Beyond Sports Network, Daktronics and the Don Hansen Football Gazette. Webster was also invited to the East-West shrine game, where he tallied multiple quarterback hurries and a sack.

At the NFL combine, Webster ran the 40-yard dash in 4.58 seconds, putting him behind only number one overall pick, Jadeveon Clowney, for fastest time among defensive linemen.

Offesnive linemen Matt Feiler and Brian Clarke have also joined the NFL ranks, signing with the Houston Texans and Dallas Cowboys respectively as priority free agents.

Feiler was a three-time All-PSAC East first team selection, and recorded 36 bench press repetitions at the NFL combine, tying for second among all players.

Clarke finished third in voting for the Gene Upshaw award this past season, which is given to the nation’s top Division II linemen, as well as  three-time All-PSAC East first team selection.

Stay tuned for more updates on Huskies that could land in the NFL, and congrats to Larry Webster, Matt Feiler and Brian Clarke.
