Flood Buddies Host Bake Sale at BHS Homecoming Game to Benefit Bloomsburg Families

The Flood Buddies of Bloomsburg University and Bloomsburg High School will inspire hope on Friday, October 7 by hosting a Bake Sale at the Bloomsburg High School Homecoming game at Redman Stadium. All proceeds will be given to the district families displaced by the flood with children. It is estimated that over 60 families were displaced. 

BLOOMSBURG UNIVERISTY, Bloomsburg, PA – (October 5, 2011) – The Flood Buddies Bake Sale will begin at 6:30 p.m. and will continue for the duration of the Homecoming game. The group will also have change buckets for additional donations.

Flood Buddies was created by a group of Public Relations students at Bloomsburg University. The idea developed in Dr. Richard Ganahl’s Public Relations senior level course. The motivation behind Flood Buddies is to inspire hope and donations for the affected families.

“Flood Buddies is a great chance to help our community and strengthen the bond between the university and the Bloomsburg community!” said Dr. Ganahl.

The Flood Buddies partnered with Bloomsburg High School National Honor Society to collaborate ideas to maximize the awareness throughout Bloomsburg. Th NHS is advised by high school French teacher Rachel Mollette. NHS student officers include Thomas Dillon, Stefan Szilagyi, Lauren Ball and Zachary Minter.

“Bloomsburg has been my home for the past three years, “ said Julie Sterner, a member of the Flood Buddies, “Seeing what has happened in such a short time is devastating and I am doing everything I can to help.”

Bloomsburg University students involved in the Flood Buddies include Jessica Ames, Kimberly Cox, Hillary Gorgone, Bethany Homiak, Deanna Kellett, Brittany Kelly, Samantha McFarland, Samie Richart, Brooke Samsel, Brittany Scharr, Jennifer Sensky, Julie Sterner, Natalie Wagner, Amanda Whitford and Erika Zaborny.
