Do you have what it takes to be Roongo?

Do you have high energy and love performing in front of crowds? Do you like interacting with people and spreading school spirit? Well if you are between 5’7” and 5’11” then you might have what it takes to be Bloomsburg University’s next Roongo. Although, being this prestigious position isn’t an easy task. There is a list of do’s and don’ts that need to be abided by the lucky mascot:

Do’s

· Arrive at the game site least 30-45 minutes in advance of the start of a game.

· Constant motion is a must. Always be on the move; keep the crowd entertained.

· When in costume, always stay in character.

· Use tact when imitating others. Make a special effort not to offend anyone, including the referees and umpires.

· Uphold a positive image at all times.

· Keep fit and stay healthy. Stay hydrated during performances and make sure to eat foods high in carbohydrates to keep up your energy level.

· Practice caution at all times to ensure your safety and that of others.

Don’ts

· Never talk in costume. The mascot character is nonverbal – at no time while wearing the suit should you speak.

· Do not use the costume for personal purposes or allow others to wear it. This is a violation of the costume use guidelines and is punishable by dismissal.

· Take signs from the crowd. Use only Bloomsburg-approved props.

· Obstruct the view of spectators during games or matches.

· There is no place for lewd, rude or obscene gestures. Additionally, the mascot should refrain from antagonizing the opposing team, its mascot, its fans or game officials.

· Do not touch a child unless he or she initiates the contact by trying to hug you. We encourage our mascot to play around with the kids and have fun and act goofy and everything – but he is not to physically touch a child unless the child opens his or her arms to want a hug or something like that.

· No one should see you change from street clothes to the mascot costume and vice versa. Take care to change in private and always carry the costume in its carrying bag.

· Show up for an appearance under the influence of drugs or alcohol (IMMEDIATE DISMASSAL)

Failure to live up to or follow these rules will result in suspension of mascot duties or dismissal from the role. The first violation (exception is drug and alcohol violation) will result in a written warning. The second violation will result in a two-event suspension. Third violation will be dismissal from the program.
