Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania and Aramark officially had the grand opening of the newly popular burger joint, Steak ‘n Shake. The event took place this past Tuesday, Sept. 15 at 11 a.m. in its current location underneath the Scranton Commons. To commemorate the occasion, the on-campus dining service offered prizes and free samples to students and the public.

Aramark, who supplies products to all campus dining locations, teamed up with Steak ‘n Shake to provide prizes such as t-shirts, water bottles, sunglasses, and much more. However, the biggest attraction for BU students was a chance to win a semester’s worth of milkshakes or burgers.

This national brand has been highly popular on campus according to the marketing manager for Aramark Kasey Marsicano, “we’ve seen a large crowd alltshirt-edited day long, lunch and dinner.” A big appeal to the students is the variety of menu options, exciting milkshake flavors, and the opportunity to use a meal swipe.

The majority of the options offered on the menu are steak burgers, but they also offer a healthier option. A grilled chicken sandwich has been added to allow customers an alternative to red meat choices.

Steak ‘n Shake is not the only new dining option to come to campus this semester. The Lunch Box, located next to Centennial Hall, provides a wide range of various tacos and breakfast sandwiches. The Italian Kitchen, previously located in the Scranton Commons, has a new home in the Kehr Union Building. “The Husky Lounge has seen a very successful opening… one of the great things is that campus is constantly evolving, so it is great that we can move it over there [Husky Lounge] and still have the pizza presence on campus,” Marsicano said.

Bloomsburg University senior Haleigh McDonald is excited about the new options especially the Steak ‘n Shake. “Even though this is my last year, I’m happy to see all of these places around campus. I love the burgers here and it’s something that hasn’t been available before. It’s nice to have some more variety.”

“Students are very happy and we have received a lot a positive feedback. We are going to continue to grow, but this is a great first step,” commented Marsicano.
