Bloomsburg University Museum Exhibitions Presents: The Many Faces of Batman
Come see an interesting exhibit presented by BU students
Museum Exhibitions is a 400 level class offered at BU, and this semester Professor Natalie Harris is teaching it. It is aimed at educating students in the theory and skills necessary for careers in museums, as well as practical training, and what better hands on experience than putting on an exhibition. The class voted on the proposals from each member, and came to the conclusion that The Many Faces of Batman will be featured this semester.
We all know the legend of what awaits the criminals who prey on the innocent citizens of Gotham City; they incur the wrath of the masked vigilante known by aliases such as the Caped Crusader, the Dark Knight, but the most common name for Bruce Wayne’s alter ego is, of course, Batman. However, despite the great penetration of Batman into pop culture, many are unaware of the character’s diverse history. The mission of the Museum Exhibitions class at Bloomsburg University is to educate the University and surrounding community in the story behind one of the most famous fictional crime fighters of all time.
The Many Faces of Batman will be comprised of a chronology walking the viewers through The Dark Knight’s history. An emphasis will be placed on stylistic changes as well as the conscious choices as to style in conjunction with current events of various periods throughout history. In many cases, the demeanor and vibe of the comics matches the pulse of the country and world at that time, so it is definitely worth taking time to view what previously had not been obvious to those that have been avid fans as well as those who don’t know much about The Caped Crusader at all. There will be art from several featured artists including comic book art along with local submissions. Also, to make the show more interactive, there will be a “make your own Batmask station.”
The exhibition will be held in the Haas Gallery of Art at Bloomsburg University. The opening reception is slated for Tuesday, April 24 at 4-5:30 p.m. After the initial showing, the exhibit will be on display in the Gallery until May 10, and admission is free. Gallery hours are Monday thru Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturdays noon to 2 p.m. Venture to the Haas Gallery to view the exploits of one of the most loved and well received civilian advocates and crime fighters of all time, Batman!
