October Nor'easter on the way...

SNOW EXPECTED:

Just when the leaves began to turn colors this year the weather drastically got low. Over the past few weeks we have all experienced seasonably low temperatures around Bloomsburg, Columbia County and surrounding areas.

Now, if you have not already heard, snow is on the way. In fact, Columbia County is under a winter storm warning according to the National Weather Service, and wnep.com reports that the Bloomsburg area could be dumped with as much as four to eight inches of snow Saturday.

The snow is likely to come after 8 a.m. tomorrow morning, and wnep.com reports that, “Snow will overspread the region by 11 a.m.” Low temperatures and high winds are also expected. Even though this storm seems as if it is coming particularly early, it is imperative to be careful and stay safe.

BEAT THE CROWD:

Tomorrow morning local grocers will be packed with shoppers trying to avoid the heavier snow later in the day. To beat the crowd, head out tonight and get everything that you will need. Whether it is shovel to remove snow from your path, warm clothing, or food for your dorm or apartment, the earlier you can get to the store the better.

THIS WEEKEND @ BU:

Welcome parents and families to Bloomsburg University! Do not let the snow ruin your Halloween weekend. This weekend there is a lot to do right here on campus. No need for a car or much money.

FRIDAY:

Tonight, Friday Oct. 28, D.A.S.L. is hosting the second annual Haunted Husky Hollow on upper campus in the Quest team building woods. From 7 to 10 p.m. BU students can enjoy a Halloween scare for free. Donations will be accepted at the entrance.

Also, tonight at 9 p.m. in KUB ballroom, comedy magician Adam Trent will visit Bloomsburg University. In his program, “Magic Breaking the Sounds Barrier,” students and guest will get to see an amazing show. The event is free to all BU students and family and friends.

SATURDAY:

At 7 p.m. on Saturday a bus will depart the Bloomsburg Hospital parking lot for the Elysburg haunted house. This is done every year and students always say that it is a great time. The bus is free from Bloomsburg, however; admission to the haunted house will not be covered by the university.

Probably the event that most people are excited for this weekend is the first Celebrity Artist Series performances of the semester. 2006 winner of NBC’s hit show, “Last Comic Standing,” Josh Blue will perform at 8 p.m. on Saturday in Mitrani Hall located in Haas Center for the Arts.

In a calendar year where we have experienced record heat, record rain, and even an earthquake, it seems fitting that a Halloween nor’easter is expected. Be safe and have a great weekend!
