The past couple months have been exciting for Nickelodeon. Towards the end of 2015, The Splat was aired on television where you could watch your favorite ‘90’s Nick cartoons.
Could it get any better than that? Well, yes it can. On Jan. 27 it was reported that a new film is in the works from Paramount and Nickelodeon studios. A film called, NickToons.
The premise of this film will focus on not one, but several Nickelodeon cartoons from the 1990s. According to Variety, the cartoons on board for the project are Ren & Stimpy, Ahh! Real Monsters, Doug and Rugrats.
Director Jared Hess has already signed on to the project. Hess is also co-writing the film with his wife Jarusha.
Variety also reported that it could be a film like the 1988 film Who Framed Roger Rabbit. For those who are not familiar with that film, Roger Rabbit mixes animation with live action, which was an unbelievable cinematic accomplishment back in 1988. It shows cartoon characters interacting with live, human actors on screen simultaneously, creating a unique story-telling and movie going experience.
There is no release date or any further details at this point. So we have to patiently wait for updates.
