NFL Week 3 Partial Power Rankings
As we approach Week 3 of the 2017 NFL Season, let’s take a look at the current top five teams in the league after getting two good looks at each team.
- Kansas City Chiefs
The Chiefs have had, by far, the most impressive start of any team in the 2017 NFL Season. They began their season by rolling into Foxborough and giving the New England Patriots an old-fashioned Bean Town beat down. The Chiefs kept the ball rolling in Week 2 as they beat the Philadelphia Eagles by a touchdown at Arrowhead.
With a convincing win against the defending champions and another against a fringe playoff team, the Chiefs take the No. 1 spot heading into Week 3.
- Denver Broncos
It’s early but the Denver Broncos look really good. On offense, they’re running the heck out of the ball as lead back C.J. Anderson is averaging just a shade less than 100 yards a game. They also happen to be throwing the heck out of the ball as Trevor Siemian is on pace to throw 48 touchdowns this year. And, I haven’t even mentioned their defense yet (which is dominant)!
While some regression to the mean on offense is inevitable for the Broncos, their defense still provides them with a stable floor on a weekly basis. Their two wins (including one trouncing of the Dallas Cowboys) lands them at No. 2 on the Week 3 Partial Power Rankings.
- Atlanta Falcons
After switching offensive coordinators this offseason, there was some concern that Atlanta’s offense would regress. Fear not Falcons fans, as the reincarnation of The Greatest Show on Turf is still humming like a bird.
The Falcons are 2-0 with a win over the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field and a very impressive stomping of the Green Bay Packers at home. They’re No. 3 on the PPR headed into Week 3.
- New England Patriots
I know, I know. There’s a bunch of 2-0 teams deserving of this spot, but listen to my logic: The Patriots did something they never do in Week 1, which was to celebrate themselves. The Pats took the night to remind the world that they overcame the biggest deficit in Super Bowl history. Because of this, the Chiefs destroyed them. This won’t happen again and the Pats have already returned to form after dismantling the New Orleans Saints in Week 2.
They may not have the record to show it (yet), but the Pats are still one of the most likely teams to hoist the Lombardi, which earns them the No. 4 spot this week.
- Green Bay Packers
Yes, another 1-1 team lands in my top five. My thinking: The Packers handily beat the Seahawks in Week 1 — a team that many people picked to win the Super Bowl prior to the season starting — and then lost handily to the Falcons. Do you know who the Raiders played? The Titans and the Jets (lol). Do you know who the Steelers played? The Browns (LOL) and the Vikings (without Bradford). You’re telling me if the Packers played any combination of those teams they wouldn’t be 2-0? No, you’re not.
