Gingrich Wins South Carolina Primary Election

Newt Gingrich, republican presidential hopeful, was named winner of the South Carolina primary late Saturday night. The win has opened up the playing field for all candidates after three separate winners have taken first prize in three separate states.
Rick Santorum; winner in Iowa, Mitt Romney; winner in New Hampshire; and now, Gingrich comes out on top in South Carolina, a state which prides itself on naming the republican nominee.
Gingrich, who recently gained attention because of an interview his ex-wife gave to both ABC News and The Washington Post about their relationship, gained momentum in Thursday’s CNN Republican Debate when John King started the debate off on that soar subject. Gingrich responded, “I am appalled that you would begin a presidential debate on a topic like that.” Gingrich called for elite media to stop protecting Obama.
Thursday night ended in South Carolina with 40 percent of the vote going to Gingrich, 28 percent to Romney, 17 percent to Santorum, and 13 percent of the vote to Paul. Gingrich taking a large win – his first win of the primary season.
The primaries now move further south into Florida. NBC will host a debate Monday night and another debate on CNN will take place on Thursday night. The performance these candidates give in these two showings will be a crucial part of the final results in the Sunshine State.
