Ad-Rock Partners with Planned Parenthood

For the past couple of years, there have been states in the U.S. that were in talks of cutting funds to Planned Parenthood. States such as Texas have already cut funding to the organization in their states leaving many low-income women without the care that they need. Since Donald Trump became the President-elect, many have been worried about the future of reproductive rights. If funds are cut from Planned Parenthood, that brings major trouble and inconvenience to those who depend on it.

In response to the recent targets on ending Planned Parenthood, Beastie Boys member Adam “Ad-Rock” Horovitz has designed a shoe (pictured left) that will help raise money for the organization. These shoes will be made from the company Keep. Keep has been around for 10 years who have a “deep desire to make classic, clean shoes without the bulk and bother of other brands.” The name of these shoes are the “Ramos Ad-Rock.” It is in limited release. You can pre-order a pair for $97 and will start shipping in Feb. 2017 . On the Keep website, the shoe is described as follows, “a water-resistant, nylon cordura body and is lined with synthetic shearling. The ankle features a channel quilted, silicon coated nylon accent, stuffed with synthetic down”. The shoe also has Horovitz’s name stitched on the sides. In homage to Planned Parenthood, the shoe has magenta laces.

Horovitz has been in the public more than usual after the outcome of the 2016 election. In a Nov. 20 story in Rolling Stone, he was reported in leading an “Anti-Hate” rally in Adam Yauch Park in N. Y. Adam Yauch, otherwise known as “MCA”, was one of the members of Beastie Boys. He passed away from cancer in 2012. Earlier in Nov., Yauch’s park was vandalized with anti-sematic graffiti, with swastikas and pro-Trump tags; prompting Horovitz and many others to visit the park.
Many things are uncertain now with a Trump presidency on the horizon. A more conservative president could lead to changes in health care, economic policies, and reproductive rights. Organizations like Planned Parenthood are expected to feel the most of those changes in the upcoming years.
Planned Parenthood’s website describes themselves as a, “trusted health care provider, information educator, a passionate advocate, and a global partner helping similar organizations around the world. Planned Parenthood delivers vital reproductive health care, sex education and information to millions of women, men, and young people worldwide”.
If you do not have an extra $97 in your pockets for a new pair of kicks, you could also donate to Planned Parenthood on their website if you wish.
