On May 6, 2004, our favorite six friends had coffee together for the last time. Friends, airing from 1994-2004, graced us with laughter until we cried, and for those who still faithfully watch re-runs everyday, it still does.
Rumors of a reunion episode have been circling the Internet for years, but unfortunately none were true. However, what is true is that that all six friends will be together again for an NBC special honoring sitcom director James Burrows. The special will air on NBC on Feb. 21 at 9 p.m.
Burrows, who just directed his 1,000th television episode, has directed episodes of some of the most popular television sitcoms including Cheers, Mike and Molly, and Frasier. Before getting too excited, beware; this is NOT a scripted episode. (Although we still wish that would happen, just once.)
E! News states that the reunion was initially confirmed at the 2016 TCA winter press tour. Robert Greenblatt from NBC stated that even though Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer, Matthew Perry, and Matt Leblanc will all be in attendance for the special, they may not reunite all at one time: “Hoping that all six of them will be in the same room at the same time, but I’m not sure we can logistically pull that off.”
Here’s to hoping that the gang will all be reunited in the same room at the same time (At the apartment or sitting on the couch in Central Perk works as well!)
