This Charming Franco

Actor, director, author… musician? James Franco just announced he will be releasing an album/film piece titled Let Me Get What I Want with his band Daddy. The album is inspired by classic rock band the Smiths. The Smiths’ bassist, Andy Rourke, is featured on every track.
Franco, alongside art school friend Tim O’Keefe, formed Daddy. They recently revealed a video for “This Charming Man” via Vice. Each song will have a video. When watched in order, these videos will form a single story, as well as a painting for each track by Franco.
The album itself is an enigma despite just being announced. According to Pitchfork, Franco’s latest book of poetry, Directing Herbert White: Poems, has poems inspired by Smiths’ songs. Franco and O’Keefe decided to make songs around these poems. Therefore: songs based on poems based on songs.
“This Charming Man” is the only single released so far. Named after the classic Smiths’ song, it’s not a direct cover. Check out the track below.
