Green Day and Nine Inch Nails Up for Hall of Fame Induction

The 2015 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominees have been announced, and the list includes a pretty wide variety of groups and solo artists.
According to Billboard, an act has to have been around no fewer than 25 years to make the cut for possible nomination. That means that Green Day and Nine Inch Nails, both of whom released their first music in 1989, are up for nomination in their very first year of eligibility. Nine Inch Nails is currently the fan favorite according to the tally of votes on the hall’s official website.
N.W.A. also made the list for the second time, with the possibility of being the next hip hop group inducted into the hall alongside past inductees the Beastie Boys and Run DMC.
Other nominees include Bill Withers, Chic, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, Kraftwerk, Lou Reed, The Marvelettes, Paul Butterfield Blues Band, The Smiths, The Spinners, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Sting (for his solo work, though his band The Police were inducted previously), and War.
The top five artists as selected by fans on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame website will become a part of a fans’ ballot. This ballot will be tallied along with the others to select the 2015 inductees.
