Quarantine Self-Care

With the current pandemic, we as a society are being forced to find new ways to entertain ourselves since all non-essential businesses are shut down until further notice. With nowhere to go, what should we do? I have found peace in this challenging time by doing things to benefit my overall mental and physical health! Here are some ways you can have fun stuck at home, while still being productive.

No matter what your hobbies or interests are, there are many ways to get your creative juices flowing during quarantine.

  • Alter old clothes to make them new! Bleaching and tie dyeing clothes is super easy and fun! And afterward, you have a new piece to wear.
  • Drawing, coloring, sketching, and painting are really fun and a good therapeutic outlet! Even if you don’t consider yourself artistic, there are easy ways you can still create without getting frustrated. There are adult coloring books that you can order from amazon that you can create beautiful pictures with! My favorite thing is to just doodle! Practice makes perfect, and you would be surprised by what you can come up with!
  • Creating music! There is free software you can download, like GarageBand, that you can create beats with.
  • Recreate TikTok and Pinterest crafts! There are tons of creative people in the world that share their tips and tricks on how to create home decor, paintings, and many other things! There are plenty of new things to try!
  • Starting a blog or an Instagram page that revolves around your hobbies or interests! These can be personal and private, or you can share them with the public! Either way, it’s a cool experience to show your creativity through images!

Going Outside

This is an obvious tip, but being outside and exercising is an easy way to raise your endorphins. Here are some suggestions on what to do outside!

  • Hiking
  • Playing outdoor games like football, soccer, kickball, cornhole, and spikeball.
  • Yoga
  • Going for a walk
  • Having a picnic
  • Going to lookouts to take in the scenery

Family Time

Most of us are back home with our families. I know that most of us enjoy being on our own during the school year, but since we are stuck at home, let’s make the most of it! Here are some suggestions to pass the time while having fun and bonding with family!

  • Game night
  • Cooking together
  • Work on a puzzle together
  • Movie night

Journaling can be a great way to reach mental clarity, especially during challenging times, like this pandemic.  Writing down thoughts and emotions can help you release the stress of those emotions, so you don’t dwell on negative emotions. Here are some tips on how to get started.

  • Find a notebook and make it your own
  • Date each page
  • Write down the emotions and stresses you are dealing with daily
  • Write down your goals for yourself to help bring structure into your daily life by focusing on where you want to be in the future

As time progresses you can keep track of what days you were feeling more stressed, to easily pinpoint the cause of that extra stressful day. Journaling is a way to break habits within your life and allows you to release negativity from your mind.

Skin care

Now, the idea of skin care isn’t appealing to all people, but it is such a necessity! Taking good care of your skin not only takes care of blemishes, but it also can prevent aging throughout the years. My favorite thing to do when feeling like pampering myself is to do a face mask! There are many kinds that you can buy, but you can also make face masks with random household items.

  • Egg and turmeric face mask, great for youthful glowing skin!
    • This mask requires one egg with a sprinkle of turmeric
  • Honey, baking soda, and olive oil mask, great for moisturizing your skin!
    • This mask requires one tsp of honey, two tbs of baking soda, and one tbsp of olive oil

You can create facemasks out of products such as honey, aloe vera, yogurt and olive oil to have brighter and more moisturized skin! It’s a fun process to make your own masks and you can use organic products to ensure you aren’t using harsh chemicals on your skin! There are a ton of concoctions you can find on Pinterest!
